Full Description

Our Choice is a one-off. Kempers built exactly one 2200, and this is it. That matters more than it might first appear, because the Kempers name traces back to 1894, when Theodorus Kempers was granted permission to establish a shipyard at Alphen aan den Rijn. Through the 20th century the yard turned out hundreds of steel Kempala cruisers, hard-chine motor yachts that built a reputation for toughness, and plenty of them are still cruising. In 1985 Kempers delivered Esmeralda, a 23.89-metre steel motorsailer, proving the yard could handle bespoke builds beyond 24 metres. Our Choice sits in that same custom tradition. Two years after she launched, the yard was taken over by Van der Valk and renamed Scheepswerf Falcon, which brought the Kempers yacht-building era to a close. She is, in effect, an end-of-era boat from the final years of the original family yard. The vessel herself is a serious long-range cruiser. She measures 22.6 metres with a 5.76-metre beam and draws 2.05 metres, displacing 90 tonnes on a round-bilged steel hull with an aluminium superstructure, which keeps weight down where it matters. Her layout is unusual and genuinely useful: aft deck, saloon, galley and owner's cabin all sit on a single level, with the pilot house above rather than below. For a boat under 24 metres, an owner's deck like that is rare. Power comes from twin Caterpillar 3406B diesels rated 300hp each, the originals from her build, showing just 2,550 hours. That is an average of around 75 hours a year across 34 years. The 3406B is a fully mechanical 14.6-litre inline-six with no engine control unit and no electronics to fail, one of the most rebuildable diesels Caterpillar ever made, and at 300hp per side these are running well below a ceiling that some variants push past 480hp. A de-stressed, longevity-first installation. Her present owner has treated her as a long-term asset rather than something to move on. Exterior paintwork redone 2022, the entire hydraulic system renewed 2021, electrical systems renovated across 2020 to 2023, water tanks renovated 2021, sewage system replaced 2021, exhaust system replaced 2022, stabilisers refurbished 2023, fire alarm system completely renewed 2025. She holds a valid CVO certificate for European inland waters.
